Kruger National Park
A trip to Kruger will undoubtedly bring you as close to nature as possible whether you stay outside the park or inside one of the many camps.
Situated roughly 260 miles northeast of Johannesburg, the nearly 5 million-acre Kruger National Park offers some of the best access to wild animals in Africa. The Big Five – buffalo, elephants, leopards, lions and rhinos – all reside here, as well as Nile crocodiles, hippos and rare birds like southern ground-hornbills and lappet-faced vultures. But this sprawling wildlife sanctuary is home to more than just animals. Giant baobab, fever and marula trees tower above the park’s savanna, thornveld and woodland landscape. What’s more, Kruger’s Marula and Nxanatseni regions house the Albasini and Masorini ruins, where Portuguese colonists and members of the indigenous Ba-Phalaborwa ethnic group once traded metal products, beads, clothes and more.

Zimanga is the first reserve in Africa designed for avid safari enthusiasts whilst simultaneously addressing the needs of wildlife photographers of all levels, offering exclusive wildlife viewing experiences and innovative photographic opportunities unlike any found elsewhere on the continent.
There are currently nine photographic hides on Zimanga, including two Bird Bath Hides or Reflection Hides, called the Mkhombe and Bhejane hides named after the isiZulu words for white and black rhinos respectively. These are ideal for small bird photography. The larger Lagoon hide focuses on waterbirds and crocodiles in the summer season.
Umgodi and Tamboti Overnight Hides are currently the only hides custom designed for large mammal photography. The bee-eater hide is a mobile unit that can be placed in close proximity to where white-fronted bee-eaters nest and produces stunning results for these colourful birds.
