Phil Gould: A Life Framed by Wildlife

Phil Gould, wildlife photographer

Celebrating 60 years

Born on 27 January 1966 in Awbridge, near Romsey in the UK, Phil Gould has built a life shaped by a camera and an enduring fascination with the natural world. From an early age, he was drawn to wildlife, developing a patient, observant approach that would later define his photographic style. These early lessons became the foundation of a lifetime spent behind the lens.

Over the years, Phil has established himself as an internationally respected wildlife and nature photographer, known for images that balance technical excellence with a deep respect for animal behaviour and habitat. His work captures not just what wildlife looks like, but how it lives quiet moments, natural rhythms, and the unseen stories unfolding in the wild.

One of his most recognised projects is 365 Photography Days, a personal and creative challenge in which Phil produced one image for every day of an entire year. The book blends wildlife, travel, and landscape photography with reflective commentary, offering insight into both the discipline required to sustain creativity and the rewards of committing fully to a photographic vision. It has inspired countless photographers to embark on long-term projects of their own.

Phil’s passion extends beyond publishing. He is the driving force behind Wildlife Dreams, a photography and conservation initiative dedicated to connecting people with wildlife through ethical, immersive experiences. Best known for its specialist wildlife hides and workshops, Wildlife Dreams enables photographers to observe and photograph animals responsibly, while actively promoting conservation awareness and education.
