The northern goshawk is often called the ghost of the forest. Due to its piercing gaze and swift wings this hunter is a silent whisper, passing through the shadows of the forest until it strikes.
Amazing photos captured at our hide complex
The goshawk’s cobalt blue back, silver breast and elusive behaviour also contributes to its other name – phantom of the forest. This bird of prey is beautiful and once seen it’s no wonder a photographer’s dream is to capture its essence.
Goshawks live in forests and hunt along the edges of habitats, where forests transition to grasslands, or the edges of clearings within forested areas. At our wildlife hide complex in Estonia some amazing images of goshawks have been photographed.
During the spring goshawks don’t tend to eat dead carcasses and prefer live prey such as pigeons, ravens (which we have a lot of at the hide complex) and medium size mammals like rabbits and squirrels. Come winter when food is more difficult to find, giving them a helping hand is a win-win situation as Estonia’s winter can be 5 months of the year. With the money coming from hide photography, Wildlife Dreams is working alongside Save Estonian Forests, to help prevent goshawk habitat being cut down by forestry companies.
Wildlife Dreams hide complex is state of the art with special photographic glass from Photo Logistics, fully heated, Wi-Fi, compost toilets, hot food provided by the kitchen and plenty of room. Of course, it’s not just goshawks that you might see but other raptors, small birds and foxes in the snow.
So if you’re looking to photograph goshawks then certainly come to our luxury wildlife hide complex.
