Welcome to View from the Hide

Our new weekly blog sharing what’s happening at the wildlife hide; the sights, sounds, and surprises from behind the lens.
Monday 6th October

Dean Eades headed home after capturing fantastic images of Raccoon Dogs and Badgers at night. You can see his stunning shots in our new photo gallery — they’re well worth a look!

Tuesday 7th October

The first signs of winter arrived with our early finches, including Brambling, Greenfinch, and Yellowhammer. A sure sign that the seasons are shifting. This stunning photo was captured by Nick Dale at our hide.

Wednesday 8th October

A day for new photographic setups! We raised our first old tree stump to create a cleaner background and reduce summer maintenance.

At the Kingfisher Pond, another stump has become a feeding station perfect for Badgers and Owls.

Thursday 9th October

We welcomed Nick Wilcox-Brown, who visited the hide complex to plan exciting new wildlife photography and post-production workshops. Stay tuned for details!

Nick is going to be running two workshops at our hide next year:

30 Jan – 4 Feb 2026. 4-6 people. 4 days, 3 Nights.

15-18 May 2026. 4-6 people. 4 days, 3 Nights.

Friday 10th October

A proud moment  the 300th edition of Digital Camera Magazine featured our wildlife hide in its Reader Challenge section!

Meanwhile, our usually active Raccoon Dogs and Badgers took two nights off  perhaps celebrating their media debut?

Saturday 11th October
Autumn colours were in full glory, providing spectacular backdrops for woodpeckers and birds of prey. Don’t miss our latest blog post on autumn photography for some seasonal inspiration.
Sunday 12th October

Peace returned both Raccoon Dogs and Badgers resumed their natural behaviour. Whatever spooked them earlier remains a mystery even the trap cameras caught nothing. Perhaps our elusive Puma visitor? Read more in our other blog!
